Life is hard. During the good times we feel like we are on top of the world, but when we descend back into the valleys we start to think ,” What good can there be in this world?” We realize that life isn’t easy, and we question where God has been during these times when we needed Him. After all, how could He be here at all if He won’t even show Himself during the hardest time of my life?
Yet, when we look back on the hard times in our past, those are the areas we see His work the most, even if He seemed to have vanished during those times. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” It is comforting to know that even in those hard times, He was and is watching over us. I love how the song Through All of It phrases it;
I have won
and I have lost
I got it right sometimes
But sometimes I did not
Life’s been a journey
I’ve seen joy, I’ve seen regret
Oh and You have been my God
Through all of it
Not just in our good times or just in our bad times, but through all of it, God has been there, though He isn’t always visible to us. It is so reassuring to know that someone much greater and more powerful than me is in control, always.
Another thing that comes from believing that God isn’t in control is that we start to worry. Since He isn’t there to help us through the challenges we face, we become the ones that must control those situations and take care of ourselves. This leads us to begin to worry. Matthew 6:33-34 says,”But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.”
I am so thankful that I don’t have to worry about the future, the choices I will make and the challenges I will face. There is a God who cares; He loves me and wants what is best for me. I don’t need to worry because I am a child of the One who is in control through all of it.
