….and I’m not coming back for two months!
For those of you that are subscribed to this blog, you know that I’ve been planning on going to Mexico this summer for
quite some time. Well, today’s the day! I’ve been writing little bits of this as I have time throughout my travels. As this is published, I’m waiting in Detroit for my flight to Mexico City. I suppose you’re all interested in the what, why and when of my trip, so I’ll get to it.
To start, I’ll be spending two months and three days in Mexico, most of which will be spent at Refuge Ranch, the home base of Fishers of Men Mexico. At some point, I plan on writing an about page for Fishers of Men on here, but for now, I’ll make sure you know the basics.
Fishers of Men has two main facets: Refuge Ranch and the Crusades. The Ranch is, as I said, the home base. Many kids (adopted by Julie, the founder of the mission) call this place home, as well as the core staff of Fishers of Men. While I’m in Mexico, I’ll likely be helping out a bit with their school, as all of them are homeschooled at the Ranch.
The second facet of Fishers of Men is the Crusades. These are the medical missions that a team of almost entirely Mexican doctors and staff take all over the country, providing medical care, a presentation of the Gospel, and many other services to the people of Mexico. While I’m there, I’ll have the opportunity to join one of these crusades. I’ll make sure to fill you all in on it!
As for what I’m going to be doing while I’m down there, my primary goal is to serve as a communications staff, meaning I’ll be writing regular updates for you guys about everything from the basics of the mission to interesting peeks into daily life. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see how God uses me and challenges me while I’m there! Like every other mission experience ever, whether long term or short term, the plan will entirely depend on what God has in mind. At this point, I’ve pretty much given up on creating detailed plans altogether, as God always seems to mess them up with His better ones! It’ll be an adventure, and although I’m sure I won’t enjoy every moment of it, I’m excited to see what God’s got up His sleeve this time.
If you have any questions feel free to comment here and I’ll be sure to answer. Since I will be posting stories from Mexico on this blog for a couple of months, you’ll be seeing more posts from me for a while. I plan to continue with my regular weekly posts in addition to the new ones, so make sure to check your inbox every Sunday evening! I’m looking forward to sharing my journey with you!
