In the greatest love story of all time, Jesus sacrificed himself for us so that we could spend eternity with him. He died, and was buried so that we might live. But don’t ever forget, he didn’t stay there.
“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.” – Luke 24:5b-6a
All to often we act as if Christ is a character from a history book; a pretty great man from the past that saved us, but then sort of faded away. We forget that he is as alive today as he was when he came to the earth for the first time, as is stated in Hebrews 4:12,” For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
So, let us not act as if our faith is of the past; but let us remember that God is not dead, he is still within us, strengthening us. Now, if we believe that Jesus didn’t stay buried, and is still moving today, then our attitudes should begin to change. We realize that God really does answer prayers, miracles really do happen, and you really do have someone to place your faith in that will never let you down.
Life has hope when you believe that the one who died for your sins didn’t stay dead. You have hope that he is still here to love you, guide you, and strengthen you. I am overjoyed knowing that Jesus went to the cross to pay for my sins, but I thank God that he didn’t stay there.
