For a home school language project, I asked on Facebook for people’s definition of success in one sentence, and received a variety of answers. I am going to compare a few of them with two definitions of success from the Bible, which say;
“He (God) has told you men what is good and what it is the LORD requires of you:
Only to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.”- Micah 6:8
“His master said to him,’ Well done good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Come share your master’s joy!”- Matthew 25:21
First, I will share the ones that I thought were the most inspiring and closest to these verses:
To succeed in life, one must respond to the Holy Spirit’s conviction of sin, make Jesus your Lord and Savior, and grow in faith while you attempt to do his will.
To hear my heavenly Father say,” well done, good and faithful servant!”
Success to me is representing Jesus in all you do, knowing that you are already rich whether you ever make much money at all.
I found that all of these are similar to the verses in that they recognize that you need to acknowledge Jesus’ role in your life in order to succeed, even if you don’t have any worldly possessions at all.
Now I will give you some more worldly definitions of success:
Success is finding a life that truly makes you happy and brings out the best in you.
Success is to be able to live happily and comfortably while not depending on others to make that happen.
While these may not be bad definitions of success to some people, notice that they don’t include Jesus on them. In order to succeed in life, you must acknowledge Jesus’ key role in your life. You must live for God and fulfill his calling for your life.
I encourage everyone who reads this to also listen to the music video I have put on this post.
