Do you remember being a kid? Do you remember those times when you would go on adventures? We all had those
times, though they all were a little different. We got to explore, whether that was out in the country, walking by a creek; or if it was in the city, walking around your neighborhood or around town. Regardless, we had fun. We got to go out and explore an area that seemed unknown, open to exploration.
As we get older, though, it seems that our love for adventure seems to fade, or at least become contained. Why is that? Maybe as we get older we become more practical, measuring things strictly by value to us, and by how much time it will consume. We still look back on those times with fondness, remembering how we had so much more freedom then. “Things were so much simpler back then,” we tell ourselves. But what if we didn’t have to lose that love for adventure? What if we could keep it forever?
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” – Mark 12:30
You can. You never have to lose your wonder. This world that God has created is so amazing and beautiful. There is so much joy and light to be found in it, if we only look. God created this world not for us to make the most efficient use out of it but to enjoy. So enjoy it. Explore again; go on an adventure again. You just might find something you never knew you had. Just love Him first, and your joy will be multiplied. You will never lose your wonder if you never lose sight of Him
Maybe you didn’t stop your adventuring because of some sense of duty and a need to mature. Maybe you got hurt; you broke your leg hiking along that creek. Maybe you got scared; you peed your pants while skydiving and swore you’d never try anything so foolish as that again. I would tell you to not give up just because it got hard. Living a joyful, adventurous life is dangerous. In order to feel the good, we must open ourselves up to the bad as well. This only makes us stronger, though. Don’t give up on joy because you felt sadness.
Our God is a great God, and He doesn’t want us to live a lukewarm life just going through the motions. He wants us to live an adventurous, full life all for him. So stop going through the motions and go on an adventure! Have fun and be joyful!
“yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” – Habakkuk 3:18
